Viperlink Pte Ltd

Although I have always had a passion for all computer, phone and IoT matters since when I was a little kid with a childhood holding a Nokia 3310, to everything AI today, this was my first IT job and I am truly thankful for my mentor Kok Onn and James Lau for accepting me and guiding me throughout the 2 years that I have worked with them.

It all started when I felt that I could do better in my previous job and that customer service was not all I could contribute if I wanted to do something I loved. I started to think why didn’t I pursue IT, when I am passionate about it since young. So I casually looked out for job opportunities in the IT field via a job portal and saw that Viperlink is hiring an IT Support Consultant.

When I started working at Viperlink, I then realised that IT is a broad term that encompasses a huge field. Although this company is considered a local SME, it has a lot of experience in the field of enterprises.

For hardware, we supported simple end-user devices to enterprise-grade hardware, such as Watchguard Firewall, HPE ProLiant Servers with iLO, HPE Switches that supported Fiber and PoE, Ubiquiti and Cisco Router and APs, and so much more.

For productivity, we supported users with almost all of what Microsoft can offer for businesses, including Azure, Office 365, Intune, Autopilot, etc.

For endpoint and server remote monitoring, we supported users using SolarWinds (before we knew about the hack and we weren’t affected when the news came out). It was a great tool to monitor all the endpoints’ health, remote support if necessary, and a ticketing tool.

Even for cybersecurity, we supported users using SentinelOne, when EDR using AI was still largely unknown to the local market. It was a period when Ransomware was rampant, and this company made a deep impression on me by offering up to $1 million of financial relief if anyone using their software was breached.

In my 2 years with Viperlink, we kept telling potential customers and existing users that we are a proactive IT service, where we use data-driven analytics from SolarWinds to preemptively notify users that we have noticed that their PC or server is running into issues, even before they contacted us. The best part, I’m trusted to be given all the necessary administrator rights (and some even Global Admin rights) to handle most of the issues faced by our customers, and the opportunity to be hands-on with all of the hardware mentioned above out of the box, setting it up and seeing it running well in our customer’s offices.

I will never forget the grace and opportunity that was given to me back then, to know in advance about so much enterprise-grade knowledge.
